Contrapunctus String Quartet

Contrapunctus is comprised of four seniors from Midwest Young Artists’ chamber music program. The quartet has been coached by Mandy Dennis, Robert Bassill, and Shmuel Askenasi.  The members include Alan Snow from Mt. Prospect student of Gerardo Ribeiro, James Hanford from Evanston, student of Blair Milton, Andrea Ferguson from Lombard, student of Marco Dreher and Miles Link, from Wilmette student of Richard Hirschl.  Since their formation in 2010, Contrapunctus has performed around the Chicago area and they have been quarter-finalists at the Fischoff National Chamber Competition in 2011 and 2012. Most recently they won 1st place in the 2012 Midwest Young Artists Discover Chamber Music Competition.

Meshugene String Quartet
SILVER MEDALISTS

Chris Gao, cello (Long Grove, IL)

The Meshugene Quartet is an ensemble of the Midwest Young Artists (MYA) Chamber Music Program.  Its members are Lisa Chertok, 18 and Rachel Stenzel, 15, violins; Ariel Chapman, 18, viola; and Christopher Gao, 15, cello.  While they have only been playing together since September of 2010, their diverse personalities combine to bring energy and enthusiasm to their music whenever they play.  In February 2011 they were the overall winners in the MYA division of the Discover National Chamber Music Competition.  They were then featured live on WFMT’s (98.7 FM) Introductions program and went on to compete in the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition.  They are coached by Allan Dennis, Robert Bassill, and Rami Solomonow
